A weekday luncheon

We had an amazing time at the Findlay Coterie, everyone was so kind (and so pretty!) We also loved how the centerpieces for the luncheon came together. Fresh herbs wrapped in burlap and tied with ribbon made a lovely arrangement for a spring afternoon. The place cards of small birds cut from pretty paper and finished with a fresh sprig of greenery were oh so cute. Thanks for having us, Coterie!

she's

and you need a gift, a good gift. Try a set of campo de fiori pots planted with her favorite herbs, or a handmade vase filled with her favorite flowers. A french market tote is perfect for the mom who loves visiting the farmer's markets all summer. Or, treat her to the simpatico Marine candle, she can burn it while she takes a long, relaxing, uninterrupted bath (it smells divine.) Or maybe let her know how much you appreciate her tidy kitchen or her delicious cooking, and pick up a set of Patch design dish towels in her favorite color and print. Either way, make sure your mom knows how special you think she is this mother's day.

every day essentials: Jordan Sugarman

This week's every day essentials features Jordan Sugarman, a pilates instructor at Focused Fitness in the Arena District and a stylish gal, to boot. We love Jordan for her down-to-earth and friendly personality. Her visits to Rose Bredl always bring cheer! One thing we love about Jordan? Before anything else, Jordan says her number one essential in life is her family- whats not to love about a girl who knows her priorities in life?
"My family. I could not live without my amazing family. The laughter, love, and support from my mom, dad, brother and sister-in-law are essential to my every day."

1. Jax. Jax is my spaniel/hound/border collie rescue from the Capital Area Humane Society. I cannot imagine my every day without him - he has made my life whole.
2. My clients. My amazing clients are what motivate me day in and day out - their hard work, dedication to their mind and bodies, and commitment to Pilates make starting my own business worth it all!
3. Pilates. Pilates improves muscle tone, balances musculature, supports correct posture, and teaches one to move with ease and grace. I can't imagine my life without Pilates and am so lucky to be able to practice and teach a method that strengthens the mind and body.
4. Galison Decorated Sticky Notes. Every morning I complete my 3P's - I place a Post it note on the day in my organizer and write down one Plan (short- or long term goal), followed by a Positive thought. Post it, Plan it, Positive - no matter what lies ahead, I start out my day on a perfect "note".
5. Starbucks Chai Tea Latte. Before I start my day, I stop at Starbucks in German Village for my daily Chai - it's very calming to drink my tea as I drive in to the studio.
6. Fresh Flowers. There is nothing like stopping by Rose Bredl on Saturday mornings to pick up my weekly floral arrangements - one for my nightstand and one for my kitchen - something as simple as fresh flowers add a breath of life and cheer to anyone's home.
7. Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom & Honey Cologne. I can't leave the house without applying my favorite cologne - a spritz to the wrists, behind my ears and my décolletage.
8. Grosgrain hair ribbon. Monday through Friday you can find me with my signature bow in my hair - I like to add a little flair to my daily uniform of lululemon athletica and bare feet.
9. myAgenda Desktop Organizer. I couldn't live without my day planner - I love this one in particular because you can customize the layout to have it fit your particular needs and I love being able to have all of my commitments in one handy, fashionable place. It may not come with a cape, but I feel like an organizational hero with myAgenda!
10. Simpatico Candles. After a long day, I love to come home and light my beautiful hobnail candles - the nature inspired scents fill my home with fragrant illumination.

Jordan on the far right, with her family.

right on time... the market tote

Most Farmer's Markets here in the Columbus area were up and running last weekend (joy!), and our french market tote arrived just in time. With its long leather straps and sturdy, woven construction it is the perfect carrier for all kinds of fresh goodies. We find it useful to tote home fresh herbs or bouquets of flowers from Rose, too.

Swig on this.

We love the concept behind 614 magazine's "Swig" magazine/ bar guide. It's got all kinds of great tips about Columbus area bars. Even better? The amazing cocktails featured in this issue that include fresh herbs! Had a long week? Pick up a (free) issue of Swig, swing by Rose Bredl and pick up the herbs you need, then SIP!

have a peaceful monday

Its been a week now since the horrible events that unfolded in both Boston and Texas, and I feel like we all need to start this monday morning with a new spirit of peace, and of course remembrance for those who suffered great losses last week. Let the smallest bring joy to to your life: light coming in the window, green plants, spring air, small babies, sweet loves, a table set for friends... and let your heart be grateful this week.

happy friday + treat yourself

Its been a long week. I need a little pick-me-up and so I'm going to treat myself to the heavenly scented fir and grapefruit simpatico candle (right). The scent is invigorating and spring-like without being cloying, perfect for our shared-by-everyone bathroom. Its my current favorite... so stop in and see us this weekend for a candle or a happy new plant, or even if you just feel like you need a hug. treat yourself.

Calling all black thumbs

Succulents are my favorite thing, so easy to take care of and so pretty. You can plant them individually or gather them in happy families in one pot, and then completely forget about them... at least for a while. I love this arrangement that my friend Deepa came up with for me, its such a beautiful gathering of green.

How does your vintage garden grow?

then...
Now.
I've been reading through this vintage gardening book for ideas on the landscaping of our new old home- it was built in the 1950's and I just don't feel right giving it an english garden when it's all wrong for the mid-century style of the house. Not only does the book have amazing photos of vintage landscaping, it has really great gardening advice that holds firm today (i.e the care and keeping of houseplants.) The photos above are really more for a warmer climate than Ohio, but I still love drawing inspiration from them for future gardening endeavors.

growing green

Herbs arrived in the store this week and they look and smell amazing! They are so easy to grow indoors  in the kitchen window, or on a back patio in a large container. Parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, and coriander (my favorite.)

Green Week

It's April- the month of rain and anticipation. I think April gets a bad wrap for being "the cruelest month" (which actually, in my opinion, is March) because its a rainy month. Everyone sits around waiting for May flowers, but the good Earth has rested through winter and green is already bursting forth everywhere. This week is all about green, gushy, wet, glorious April green.

Its raining its pouring...

For the drippiest of april days (mud-luscious and puddle wonderful) Blundstone boots are top notch at keeping feet dry and comfortable while looking effortlessly cool, too. Check out these boots and other   stylish rainy day gear in this Columbus Monthly article. Stay dry, everyone!

en provence

feeling frenchy? I love seeing all of the different blues popping up in the store lately, from the sea salt soaps to the newest dbo home (4) and eigan arts vases, accent them with the fresh yellows of mimosa flowers or a springy yellow throw blanket from utility canvas (3) and the atmosphere become quite provencial...
